What does a star look like?  Humans have always pondered the night sky, and tried to understand the stars and the movement of the planets.  They found patterns in the stars, and named them after men and women, gods and goddesses, animals, and mythical creatures.  When they painted the night sky, they didn’t make it black… or even blue!   This map of the sky from the 17th century is full of color:


 
The famous artist Albrecht Durer created this woodcut of the night sky showing all the signs of the zodiac.  In the corners, there are people studying celestial globes.


 
The artist Vincent Van Gogh painted several images of the starry sky.  What adjectives would you use to describe this painting of the sky called, Starry Night?
