Message from Ms Sunde
What a crazy and fun day! I'm so glad you guys are so flexible because Ms
Sunde forgot to look at the schedule--yikes! We had so many fun things to
do, and so little time! I can't wait for Mass tomorrow, when Schola gets
to sing during the Mass! Get LOTS of good sleep, put on your sunscreen,
and I'll see you in the morning. Ta-da! Ms Sunde

Fan Mail!

Please
give our thanks to all of the children, faculty, volunteers and supporters of
the St. James Cathedral Choir Camp. The children were superb which means their
teachers are magnificent. What a joy for us to have you bring the children to
us! Please plan to come back again. God Bless all of you in all of the ways you
share your gifts of music for the benefit of all!

Today the Choir Room had been transformed into the Dominion of Dauntless
Diction. There were lots of angels keeping an eye out for us today!

Our morning begins with stretching. We sing best when we're alert and
ready to go from our head to our toes!

Ms Sunde leads the way!

Mr. Marquez, our Cathedral sacristan, leads us in morning prayer today. He
spoke about the mysterious story of Jacob wrestling with the angel. Music is
mysterious, too. It can evoke feelings in us in a way that is hard to
understand.

The sopranos practice with Ms. Sunde...

The sopranos and the altos sing together!

Father Woodland, Mr Marquez, Ms Bellamy, and Ms Vera prepare for Mass in the
sacristy.

Singing at Mass is what all our preparation is for! How does our singing
help others pray at Mass?

Lunch... one of the best parts of every day!

We had a special ANGEL tour of the Cathedral. There are hundreds of angels
hidden here and there in the art and architecture of our Cathedral. Which
one do you like the best?

Were you paying attention during the tour? Here is a little scavenger hunt
to see how many angels in the Cathedral you can recognize. Click on each
angel to get a clue.

And these are the latest Cathedral angels --the ones you made yesterday!

One thing I learned today was…
|
-
How to sing at the same time in
more than one key. Also, the attic of the Cathedral is VERY hot and
uncomfortable

-
To open my mouth wider
-
The parts (S and A) in “For the
beauty of the earth”
-
That Jesus’ symbol is the lamb
-
That there are many angels in
the Cathedral
-
The crescendo, the decrescendo,
and the accent mark. >
-
On how to really use the
crescendo, the descrescendo, and the accent
-
The soprano line of For the
Beauty of the Earth
-
When you’re singing 98% is
vowel and 2% is consonant
-
The alto part of For the Beauty
of the Earth
-
About angels in the Cathedral
-
The melody of For the Beauty of
the Earth
-
Alto means to sing low

-
Angel means messenger
-
The dance of the Mass
-
How many angels are in the
Cathedral
-
To sing different parts at the
same time
-
Angels are the second patron
saints of Seattle
-
Why Jesus chose the Lamb to
represent him
-
That seraphim are the highest
ranking angels
-
What an accent mark in sheet
music is
-
How to use my breath
effectively
-
That angels were here in the
beginning and in the end
-
How to fix a broken flipflop
|
My favorite piece to sing is…
|
- Ave verum corpus (2)

- Mass of Angels Kyrie
- Mass of Angels Kyrie
- For the Beauty of the Earth (19)
- Ave Maria
- Psalm 150 (3)
- A tie between For the Beauty of the Earth,
Psalm 150, and The Lord is My Shepherd
- For the Beauty of the Earth because of the
way the altos and sopranos blend
Probably For the Beauty of the Earth but I like the alto part better and I
don’t get to sing that
- “Jesu, Comfort of My Heart,” “Panis Angelicus,”
and “Ave Verum Corpus”
- The Biebl “Ave Maria”
- For the Beauty of the Earth (of course!)
|
Thank you…

How does my singing help others pray?
|
- W
hen I sing it gives time for people to think
about God. When they do that, they become better Catholics
- I don’t know
- My singing helps others pray by helping them
understand how singing can affect how they pray every day.
- It sets others an example
- It helps them open up their hearts
- Singing helps others pray by inspiring them,
because praying is like singing in a different way
- It inspires others and myself to sing to the
best of our ability
- They kind of get blended in the music and
focus on the lyrics which helps them pray
- Singing and praying are kind of mixed
- My singing helps others pray because when I
sing and am praying then others pray with me
- I think our singing helps others pray because
it shows that some songs are prayers and singing them makes them more heard
- The melody and harmonies put peace to the
mind and speak the prayer
-
The songs that I sing can be inspiration to
others
- It helps them think about God
- Because when I sing, others can listen and
hear the words and get inspiration for their prayers
- Listening to my singing and praying along
helps to pray
- It helps others pray because people can use
the song as a prayer
- My singing helps other people concentrate on
what they want to pray about
- When the choir sings, it inspires others to
pray for meaningful things
- It helps others pray listening to the meaning
of the words of the song
- With a beautiful tone to worship with
- If people can hear the word of God in a
beautiful, memorable, and touching sound, they can feel and connect to it,
and it will stay with them.
- To share God’s wonderful news in a way of
song
