Choir Camp 2010 Friday
Our last full day of Choir Camp begins like the other four... with SINGING!

Choir Camp 2010 Friday
Today Father Ryan presided at Mass.

Choir Camp 2010 Friday
We gave the homily!  We talked together about the story of the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel came and told Mary that she would be the mother of God's son.  How do you think Mary felt when she heard the angel's words?

Choir Camp 2010 Friday
We squeezed in some time to practice for Sunday's great feast.  We'll be singing at the 10 o'clock Mass on the solemnity of Mary's Assumption.

Choir Camp 2010 Friday
After lunch, we presented a short concert in the Cathedral.  It was fun to share everything we'd learned this week with our parents and families!

One thing I learned today was...

  • That the Cathedral in Ohio is named St. Peter in Chains
  • It's very hard for 39 kids to sit in silence for 60 seconds.  Hard but doable.
  • How to draw snarling dogs, how to eat cheesesticks in the best way.
  • How much Ms. Sunde wants to get rid of the stuff in the camp store.
  • The power of faith can take you so far
  • That working together, especially in music, is always the best
  • How to do the whole Orff thing!
  • Gabriela is a good piano player.
  • That J. Michael Joncas lives.  I thought he died 300 years ago.
  • That there is a difference between musical and musicale.
  • J. Michael Joncas is alive.
  • How to read music better.
  • How to sing.
  • that you can practice and practice but the only thing that has you do that tune is you.
  • How to stay in rhythm
  • I am brave enough to do solos.
  • When you sing, it is like praying to God.
  • How beautiful the choir's singing is.
  • I am doing a solo at Mass, yay!
  • That you get lots of awards.
  • Ms. Sunde rocks.

Special thank you's to J. Michael Joncas, composer of the Canticle of Zechariah we sang at Morning Praise each day:

  • I think the song the Canticle was Zechariah has nice lyrics and the rhythm is very cool!  Thank you!

  • Thank you for writing the Canticle of Zechariah.

  • Thank you for the really awesome hymn.

  • Thank you, Mr. Joncas, the Canticle of Zechariah is so beautiful

  • The song you wrote is awesome!

  • Thank you for composing the Canticle of Zechariah.  It is a great song.

  • Thank you for making that wonderful hymn.

  • The hymn you wrote is amazing it is one of my favorites.

What have I learned about teamwork from singing in the Schola Cantorum this week?

  • I can depend on them for not making fun of me when I sing or how I sing.
  • To sing in a choir, you have to really listen to each other and make sure that you're all hitting the same note, that you're now overpowering each other, etc.  You really have to work together.
  • That even the tiniest star can make a difference in a galaxy.
  • I learned that we sound better if we listen to each other.
  • With no team there is no work.  Schola isn't just the soloists, it's the choir, the team.
  • You should always hear each other when singing to know who is singing what.
  • We had to work together and RUN FAST to get almost 50 points in kickball.
  • That the altos should be in one group, and the sopranos in another group
  • Teamwork gets the best results
  • It even applies to singing.
  • I learned that it helps everyone succeed together.
  • I don't have to sing very high to be heard when there are about 40 students singing.
  • Teamwork does not just mean working together, but cooperating and helping each other.  You have to listen to your neighbor and help them maybe if they are a little off-key, or follow them if they are right.  I have also learned that is part of being a guardian angel, always lending a helping hand.
  • That you may be good at solos or even a master at them, but they get scary and it is always good to have backup singers too!
  • That we all have to sing together as one.
  • It is more fun to sing together than by yourself.
  • That it's not all about just singing songs, it's about praising God, having fun, and teamwork!
  • That in a choir, you have to work together and listen to each other to make one beautiful sound.
  • Trust your team.
  • That it is hard to dance in a line.
  • Teamwork helps you get new friends
  • Just if only one voice cannot make a professional sound, in a choir camp it can.
  • That if you listen to each other, you will always do your best.
  • That one person might sound good, but when everybody sings together, it sounds even better!
