CHOIR CAMP 2009

Angel

We began the day with prizes acknowledging all the good things campers did yesterday.  These three exemplified great leadership and participation in all our camp activities.  Way to go, Smarties!

Meg was the Senior Chorister today.  She's wearing a piece of Cathedral history.  This beautiful cross was worn by senior choristers at St. James more than 70 years ago! (Imani was the senior chorister yesterday... sorry we missed getting your photo with the historic cross!!)

We're part of history, too.  Someday, do you think people will look at pictures of Choir Camp 2009 and say, "What a long time ago that was!"  If you look closely at the cross, you can see that it says (in Latin):  St. James Cathedral Seattle  Schola Cantorum."

At Morning Prayer, Father Tom Marti, MM, read a passage from the Old Testament about the Hebrew people singing and playing musical instruments before the Ark of the Lord, which represented God's presence in their midst.  Why do we sing?  Because we are joyful!  Why are we joyful?  Because God is with us!  (P.S. Can you find this window in the Cathedral?)

This afternoon we celebrated Mass with Father Ryan.  This is what it's all about:  singing the Church's liturgy and giving praise to God!

We listened to the story of Daniel in the lions' den.  It's a story about faith in God.  If we are faithful to God, He will be faithful to us--no matter what.

After lunch, we continue to prepare for the Play of Daniel.  Satraps practice satrapping...

narrators practice narrating...

Hebrew children in the fiery furnace practice singing...

while Daniel and the two kings in our story have their poses down!

Dr. Kraus doing what he does best!

Princesses are starting to look a lot more like princesses! (Instructions for looking like a princess:  "All you have to do is smile like you're having the time of your life on a beautiful summer's day!")

Chatting with Father Ryan during a break in the Cathedral Courtyard.
Have a lovely evening, campers!
