CHOIR CAMP 2009

The morning begins with stretching exercises.  Or were they wiggling exercises?
They help us get relaxed and ready for the big day ahead.

No-bi-lis Rex Da-ri-us!

Our senior chorister for today.  Great work, Alexis!

The volunteers from Jubilate! Young Women's Ensemble used up lots of markers creating the lions for the Play of Daniel.  Do you think they are scary?

Today was our first big rehearsal for the Play of Daniel.

Daniel always prays to his God, even when the King passes a law saying no one can pray for a whole month.

In your honor, O Christ, this Daniel Play was written.

Waiting in "the wings" for their big entrance!

The treasures that are carried in are real treasures from the Cathedral sacristy.  They represent the vessels stolen from the Temple in Jerusalem in the story of Daniel.

"We cannot understand the writing on the wall."

The Queen and her maidens sing a graceful song as they enter.
The Queen knows just what to do about the writing on the wall... ask Daniel!

Summoning Daniel to the King's presence.

Our narrators help us follow every twist and turn of the Daniel story.

It's good to be the king.

The Evil Advisors are green with jealousy at Daniel's promotion.

Daniel tames the lions.

Do Satraps really have more fun?

What are you going to be when you grow up?
Medieval Jobs

Architect – design buildings.  Everyone’s building in the Gothic style these days – pointed arches, lots of stained glass windows.  Can you build a Cathedral that’s bigger than the Cathedral in the next town?

Tailor – clothes-maker.  There are no sewing machines, so you’ll need to do everything by hand.  Make hose, breeches, and surcoats for the men, chemises and wimples for the women, and tunics for everyone.

Barber – cut hair and shave beards.  Barbers also do a lot of basic first aid, so this job is not for the squeamish.

Helmetmaker, armorer, swordmaker – there are lots of battles, and every knight needs his helmet, armor, and sword!

Blacksmith – this work is strenuous and dangerous as you prepare various metals in a furnace and use it to make horseshoes, nails, wire, plowshares, wheel rims, cooking pots, and the like.

Goldsmith, silversmith – make jewelry and fine dishes and utensils.  Must be clever with your hands and good at design.

Tanner – turn animal hides into leather.  A nasty, smelly job… but you can make a good living.

Miller – Everyone will bring their grain to you to be ground into flour.  There’s a great demand for honest millers.

Fuller – bleach and dye cloth.  Another messy, smelly job.

Farmer – hasn’t changed much at all!  Raise crops and livestock and sell for a profit.

Midwife – Help women who are going to have a baby.  Note:  this job is open to female applicants only.

Troubador – Sing popular songs and play instruments.

Church Jobs – there are dozens of jobs in the Church.  Women can be nuns or prioresses, men can be monks, priests, abbots, and bishops.  You’ll do a lot of praying and preaching, singing and working.  It’s a good life!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for taking your time to work with us.  I really liked the time when we played the musical instruments.  That was really fun.  P.S. The costumes were fun, too.

Dear Webmistress,

  • Thank you so much for taking lovely pictures of us during Mass or when we're singing.  I really enjoy going online to find photos that I don't remember taking.  Some of the pictures I actually print out!  Choir Camp is really fun.  Now that camp is almost over, we sometimes forget what happened.  But now that the pic is still online, we can always go back and see them. Thank you again!
  • Thank you very much for keeping the website neat and exciting.  I look forward to seeing the entire site on Saturday.  I hope it will be as interesting as it was last year.
