CHOIR CAMP 2012

Special thanks to Mrs. Adler and Miss Christina Smith for photos of a tremendous day!

Choir Camp, Day 2 begins with.... drum roll.... music!!!
Morning prayer helps us get the day off right.  Today, Mr. Marquez led us in prayer and told us about the MARSHMALLOW EXPERIMENT.  How long would you last alone in a room with a marshmallow? 10 seconds...? 10 minutes...?  God has lots of good things in store for us... things worth waiting for.  Watch the video below to find out more.

Our morning surprise was a visit from our own David Hoffman,
ace cantor/ace rugby player!

The "Bombarde." These boys LOVE to play the organ!

Ms. Gilmore

Surprise THANK YOU for Ms. Sunde!!!!  Ms. Sunde is taking a picture because whiteboard thank you letters don't last very long. ;)

Thank you, Ms. Sunde, for making it FUN!!!

This is what happens when little brother helps prepare the snacks.

Snack time in Cathedral Hall

We performed a concert at Skyline at First Hill, right across the street from the Cathedral.
It's a great opportunity to share what we've learned with our neighbors!

Appreciative audience at the top of the stairs...!

After the concert, we introduced ourselves to some of our neighbors.

Our youth helpers from Jubilate! and the Bombarde taking a break (and doing some mysterious Play of Daniel Prep).  Thanks so much to all of you!

"Recess" in the Archbishop Murphy Courtyard

Little sister's visit... or group hug with football! :)

Our mysterious art activity in the afternoon. We colored angels. Tomorrow, all will be revealed...

There was a fair amount of raucous laughter.

Very chic angel!

More angels...!

The day ended with a special guest--Jake Finkbonner, his mom, and his two sisters.  Jake shared his AMAZING story with us.  When he was five years old, he contracted a very rare disease that is usually fatal--a flesh-eating bacteria. His whole family, his parish priest, and his school began to pray for the intercession of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha.  They prayed up a storm!

Kateri and Jake have quite a bit in common.  Kateri contracted smallpox when she was very young and was left with poor eyesight and scars.  Kateri was also Native American, and Jake has a bit of Native American, too. A friend brought a relic of Kateri and placed it near Jake in the hospital.  The very next day, the disease stopped completely.  No one could explain it!  Meanwhile, Jake was unconscious most of the time.  When he woke up, he couldn't remember the illness.  All he could remember was a visit to Heaven! Jake had to have many facial reconstruction surgeries, but he's grateful to be a normal boy, who goes to school, plays basketball, and gets in trouble sometimes!  The Church has declared Jake's healing a miracle obtained through Blessed Kateri's intercession.  Now Blessed Kateri is going to be....

SAINT KATERI!!!
Jake and his family will travel to Rome and be present when the Pope canonizes her in October of this year. Jake will get to meet the Pope, too.  What would you say if you got to meet the Pope?

Very shadowy and sunny group picture on the rectory steps...!  Jake, his mom, and two sisters are now officially members of the Choir Camp family.  We're sooooooo grateful to them for driving 100 miles (!!!) to share their story with us and give glory to God!
Read more about Jake at his website, www.jakefinkbonner.com.
