At our last Morning Praise, Ms. Bellamy talked about the "highlights" of heroes.
Under our seats there were words that described heroes: faithful,
prayerful, a good friend.
And there were words that definitely didn't describe heroes, too...

...we all thought it was pretty funny who found the word "two-faced" under his
seat!

After Morning Praise, we prepared for our dress rehearsal. Well, partly
dressed rehearsal.
Practicing the entrance of the Queen...

...and the King.

1:15pm: showtime!

"In your honor, O Lord, this Daniel play was written at Beauvais, the product of
our youth."
The medieval miracle play we perform was written centuries ago by the young
musicians
of the Cathedral of Beauvais in France. Now we, the young people of the
Cathedral of Seattle,
are singing and performing the same music and the same great story!

The evil counselors (can you tell how evil they are?) are always plotting and
planning.
They throw three of Daniel's friends into a fiery furnace.

...The children sing in the midst of the flames. God keeps them safe.

"You are worthy of everlasting praise, and glorious in splendor, Lord God!"

King Belshazzar commands a feast, and orders the sacred vessels stolen from the
Temple of Jerusalem to be brought to the banquet-hall.

Belshazzar and his court drink from the vessels, and shout shamelessly.

Terrifying letters appear on the wall: MENE TEKEL PERES. The wizards
of the court cannot
explain these mysterious words.

The queen enters with her handmaidens.

The Queen tells Belshazzar to send for Daniel, whose wisdom is known far and
wide.

Daniel in his chamber, praying to his God.

The courtiers send for Daniel.

"Come to the King's court, Daniel, for the King wishes to speak with you!"
Daniel is able to explain the words, but it is bad news for Belshazzar:
his kingdom will fall.

Daniel's words come true: King Darius comes and conquers Belshazzar, and
sits on his throne.

"O King, live forever!" The king's Marshal leads everyone in praising the
new king.

The jealous evil counselors spy on Daniel, and when they catch him praying to
God, they run to the king to tell him. King Darius has passed a law saying
that no one can pray to anyone except him--Darius!

Daniel is safe in the midst of the lions. An angel sings God's praises.

The evil counselors take Daniel's place in the lion's den, where they are
immediately devoured.
We all sing, "Bring in Daniel, and send away his enemies!"

Thank you to all the performers, and to all the youth and adult volunteers who
helped us bring the Play of Daniel to life!
Choir Camp isn't over yet, Campers! See you bright and early on Sunday
morning to do what we do best: sing at Mass!

P.S. Do you remember the concert we gave on Tuesday at Skyline at First
Hill (a long, long time ago :) ?) Susan Sullivan, a resident there,
created this scrapbook page of the event. It will become a part of Skyline's
album for the year!

Time for Reflection...
What are the miracles in your daily life?
- I think that the miracle that happened to Jake is very special and that
God has a special reason as well.
- I thought about how truly blessed I am every day. For all that I have,
and for having such a wonderful family, and friends. From the little things
like having food on the table, and that I can come home safely to people
that I love and that love me. Little miracles can happen every day. I also
am so grateful to God for the larger ones, especially recently the healing
of my mother from cancer.
- Just to get through the day without getting hurt or down.
- Everyday life itself! The odds that you would be you, living as you are,
where you are, when you are, are nearly impossible. Every person,
place and thing you meet is a miracle.
- While I was thinking about miracles, I thought that when you are in a
hard situation, miracles can happen unexpected and you eel that everything
will be just fine.
- The church is a miracle when people feel sick or lonely then they can go
to church to feel better or to pray for someone.
- I was thinking about how God created the miracle of music because if he
hadn't created music then we wouldn't be in camp right now.
- I was thinking about the miracle of when a friend turns on you and they
are truly sorry for what they've done.
- Life. A church across the street. Children's hospital so close.
- Everything in the day is a miracle!
- I am extraordinarily blessed, but I don't think of it as miraculous,
though it's as good as miraculous.
- Just to be living every day shows how God is working an everyday miracle
in my life.
- I was thinking about the beautiful music God gave us and the good food,
and the wonderful church, and Jake's miracle.
- I get to kiss my mom and dad. I have a family. I have a brother. I got a
dog. I have an awesome grandma. I have friends.
- A miracle that happened was that my dad had just paid something (I don't
remember), and then in the mail, a check came for the same amount that my
dad had paid. It reminded us that God is always looking out for us.
- Miracles that happen everyday is giving. Everyday, everywhere, people
are giving their time, love, hope, prayers, and money to help make our
community stronger.
- I was thinking of God's creations. I was thinking of how God loves us so
much that he sacrificed himself for us. I was thinking of how when my
family's passports were stolen, God helped us get new passports in a few
days without any hesitation. (Happened in France.)
- When I looked around I saw that everybody had or will have a miracle in
their life.
- God gave me food, siblings, water, friends.
- When my dad was working on a hospital ship in Africa, he was carefully
taking the doctor tools out of the hot thing they are washed in. All
of a sudden the boiling hot water exploded in his face. For three days he
had a cast on his face. Most of the ship prayed for him. On the third day,
he was healed.
- I think that one of the biggest miracles in my life are my friends and
my family. Sometimes you take them for granted, but I hope that I will
always have so many friends as I have found in Choir Camp.
- I think that when my mommy had cancer and I prayed every day that she
would be healed. Then God gave me that great miracle. My mommy was healed.
This made me so grateful and I think it's a miracle.
- For me, music is a miracle given from God. Without it, I feel my life
wouldn't really be the same. God gave me my voice, my ability to play piano,
my ability to play organ, and my musical talents to praise him forever.
Music is also my way of emotion. When life just can't use words to describe
feeling, I feel music is my way of letting it all out, but beautifully. I am
so blessed, and I thank God for everything.
- A daily miracle is having a wonderful day. Some people don't get the
chance to have a great day, but we do.
- A miracle that happens every day is that we are still healthy and alive.
- The miracles in my life is the fact I have food, water, shelter, but I
am very happy that God is watching my cats, safe from many things that can
kill them.
- I keep one thing in my mind: God is always watching and everything
happens according to our free will.
