The Feast of St. James 2004... A Photo Essay

July 2004

Affectionately known as "St James the Greatest," this 18-foot high puppet created by parishioner Kitty Kavanaugh made his much-anticipated annual appearance at the close of Mass.

"Our happy company rejoices on this day when James the Apostle went to glory in the courts of the angels."  (Codex Calixtinus)

At the conclusion of each Mass, parishioners took a moment to venerate a relic of St. James.  The reliquary bust, thought to be the work of a 15th-century German sculptor, was recently given to the Cathedral by a generous parishioner.

Festivities continued at the annual picnic on Terry Avenue.  The pinata yielded not only tootsie rolls and sweet tarts, but also toys, necklaces, and quarters!

Jake MacDuff gets his face painted... children could choose from dozens of designs.  Jake chose a dolphin for one cheek and a rocket for the other.

A highlight of the picnic was the celebration of Marianne Cote's twenty-five years at St. James.  Here she is greeted by some of the families of the children's religious education program which she has led for so many years.
