Although Victor grew up in Spokane, his career in insurance brought him to Seattle and he was very active at St. James before 1994 when he entered the Bishop White Seminary with classes at Gonzaga University. In August 1996, he was sent to North American College, Rome, for his final years of study. Victor and 29 other American seminarians were ordained as deacons in St. Peters Basilica in October. Two friends of Victor from St. James, Linda Floyd and Larry Clement, attended the ceremonies in Rome. They also attended his priestly ordination, as did Father Ryan, Sister Anne Herkenrath and Sister Claudette Conrad from the staff.
In a recent letter, Victor wrote, My vocation was fostered during my years at the Cathedral and I still consider St. James home in a profound way. I would never think of going to Seattle without visiting the Cathedral and taking in the liturgies there and visiting with my friends. It goes without saying that Fr. Ryan, his staff and the many ministers and volunteers make St. James the beautiful place that it is. My time at St. James was a blessing for me beyond all telling and I will always treasure my memories there. I give thanks to God for having led me to St. James!
Victor is planning to attend the celebration of St. James Feast Day and Parish Picnic on July 23.
