The evening Rite of Reception into the Cathedral Church begins dramatically,
as Archbishop Sartain knocks on the ceremonial doors, asking the welcome
of the Church in Seattle.

Archbishop Sartain is welcomed by Father Ryan, Archbishop Brunett,
Bishop Tyson and Bishop Elizondo.

Before he enters the Cathedral, the new Archbishop reverences the Cross.
It is a sign of the centrality of Christ in the bishop's life.

At the font, Archbishop Sartain and Archbishop Brunett sprinkle those gathered
with the holy water that recalls our common baptism.

Children of the Youth Music Program join the procession, singing "Alleluia!"

Archbishop Brunett and Archbishop Sartain
pause for a moment of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

The Rite of Reception continues with a series of greetings by groups
representing the entire Church of Western Washington. Here,
two seminarians welcome the Archbishop and are greeted by him.

In his homily, Archbishop Sartain reflected on his motto,
"Of you my heart has spoken" (Psalm 27:8).

Vespers concludes with the singing of the Marian antiphon.

A light moment before the liturgy begins: Archbishop Brunett invites
Archbishop Sartain to try out the crosier commissioned on the
occasion of Archbishop Brunett's Golden Jubilee in 2008.
