Each year, the Chrism Mass brings together people from across western Washington
for the blessing of the oils. This year, Archbishop Kurtz of Louisville,
Kentucky, preached at the Mass.

During the liturgy, lay ministers, religious, deacons, priests and bishops renew
their commitment to ministry.

The oils for blessing are presented to the Archbishop.

A hospital chaplain presents the oil of the sick.

An RCIA director presents the oil which will become the Oil of Catechumens, used
for children and adults preparing for baptism.

Newly ordained priest Father Todd Strange presents the oil for the Sacred
Chrism, which is consecrated by the Archbishop for use in the sacraments of
baptism, confirmation, and ordination; and in the dedication of churches.

In the Chapel, lay ministers and deacons prepare the oils for distribution to
more than 100 parishes and missions.

The newly-blessed oils will be used in every parish the Archdiocese this Easter.

Have a blessed Holy Week and Easter.
