![]() It was a beautiful, sunny Palm Sunday in Seattle... the perfect morning for an outdoor procession! ![]() Our E.M.'s point the way to the O'Dea Gym, where the blessing of palms takes place prior to the 10:00am Mass. ![]() ![]() Tyrone Heade, Cathedral Piper ![]() Cathedral servers lead the Archbishop to the gym. ![]() In the gym, Father Ryan proclaims the gospel of Christ's entry into Jerusalem. (Palm Sunday is the only time two Gospels are proclaimed in one Mass.) After this Gospel reading, Archbishop invites all to join the procession: "Let us go forth in peace, praising Jesus our Messiah, as did the crowds who welcomed him to Jerusalem." ![]() More than a thousand join the procession to the Cathedral, singing "Hosanna to the Son of David... Hosanna in the highest!" ![]() For the Elect, baptism is just one week away! ![]() ![]() ![]() The procession reflects the rich diversity of our parish community. We come from many places and many backgrounds, but we become one when we gather to proclaim our faith in Jesus Christ. ![]() ![]() ![]() After the reading of the passion according to Mark, Archbishop Brunett reflects on the great mysteries we celebrate during Holy Week. ![]() As the Noon Mass begins, children gather around the font for the blessing of palms. This year, youth readers joined Father Ryan in the proclamation of the Passion. ![]() Holy Week has begun! Click here for a complete schedule of liturgies during the coming great days. Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for calling us to gather as your people in these holiest of days. May we bring to these sacred liturgies the best that we have to offer: attentive minds, loving hearts, generous hands. May these Three Days bring new life to our parish, to our Church, and to our world. You live and reign for ever and ever. Amen. |
