Album: Madre de las Americas

December 5, 2009

Please be patient; photos may take a moment or two to download.

Each year, the Cathedral is privileged to host the Archdiocesan celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Americas.  The festivities begin at St. Mary's Church, with songs and rosary, and then the people walk in procession to the Cathedral.

The procession arrives!

A young dancer prepares for the procession into the Cathedral.

A living diorama of the apparition of Mary to St. Juan Diego figures in the procession.

Colorful costumes, musical instruments, and songs celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Mexico.

In the Cathedral, mariachi musicians perform before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Archbishop Brunett incenses the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The procession of gifts included fresh roses, a reminder of the roses with which Mary filled the tilma of St. Juan Diego.

People of many races and cultures present the gifts to the Archbishop.

After the procession, a great fiesta takes place in Cathedral Place Hall.
¡Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe!
