Sunday, May 17, 2009. First Holy Communion. Twenty-three
children have been preparing for this moment for a long time. Photo by
Chi Nguyen.

Everyone's excited and dressed in their very best.

After the homily, Father Ryan invites the First Communicants to gather around
the altar to renew their baptismal promises.

The children hold lighted candles, a reminder of the candle they received on the
day of their baptism.

This is what today is all about: receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus in
the Eucharist for the very first time.

The children pay a visit to Mary at the end of Mass, and then join the
procession out "to love and serve the Lord."

And, back in the Cathedral for pictures... lots of pictures!

Congratulations, First Communicants! We'll see you next Sunday!
