On the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, we recall the visit of the Magi,
the wise men, to the infant Christ. "To seek for a King was their intent,
and to follow the star wherever it went." ("The first
Nowell")

At the Noon Mass, the First Sunday Youth Celebration brings together youth
musicians, readers, ushers - and lots of servers!

Father Ryan incenses the altar at the beginning of the Mass. The star
hanging over the altar is a traditional Filipino lantern called a "parol," and
it recalls the star that led the Magi to Christ. It was created for St.
James by parishioners Teresita and Adolfo Guerrero.

The Kings join in the procession at the Noon Mass.
"Then entered in those wise men three, Full reverently, upon their knee."
("The first Nowell")

After the homily, the cantor sings the Epiphany Proclamation, which announces
the date of Easter along with the other movable feasts of the coming year.

The young musicians of the St. Cecilia Singers and the St. Gregory Choir led us
in song from their perch in the Cathedral's west gallery.

"Three kings in great glory of horses and men - of horses and men! -
in haste come a-riding o'er mountain and fen - o'er mountain and fen!"

After the Noon Mass, the children of the parish joined a procession to the
Cathedral Chapel, to pray at the manger scene and to receive a special Epiphany
treat from Father Ryan!

"Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell! Born is the King of Israel."
("The first Nowell")
