On Friday, June 6, 2008, more than one hundred people packed into the Cathedral
Chapel for the opening night of an exhibit of art inspired by the Camino of
Santiago. The exhibit, entitled Sacred Steps, is sponsored by the
Office of Tourism of Galicia, and will be on display in the Chapel through July
28. Our sincere apologies to those who were
unable to get seats at this special event!!

The evening began with Spanish Baroque music by Stephen Stubbs and Maxine
Eilander.

Rubén C. Lois González, Director of Tourism for Galicia, welcomes those gathered
and talks a bit about the exhibit and the Camino.

The exhibit consists of photographs, watercolors, and paintings by many
different artists, inspired by the Camino.

Dr. Alberto Ferreiro of Seattle Pacific University, lectures on
the topic of “El Camino, a timeless metaphor of the Christian Journey to God."

Afterwards, a reception was held in the Cathedral rectory, featuring lively
music by
Alejandro Rodrigo Fente Balsa, acordeonista (accordion) and Antonio Bueno
Salto, gaiteiro (bagpipes).

Braulio
García Cruz, cocinero del Centro Superior de Hostelería de Galicia, assisted by
Chef Joseba Jimenez de Jimenez of Seattle's Harvest Vine Restaurant,
prepares Galician delicacies, including Canapé
de pastel de Ourizo (sea urchin custard on bread!) in the foreground of the
picture.

Castañas glasé (confit
of chestnuts marinated in syrup)... a traditional dessert in Galicia. Delicious!

Some 40 artworks are on view in the Cathedral Chapel through July 28, when we
will celebrate the Feast of St. James. A huge thank you to all who made
this exhibit possible!
