In honor of the Year of St. Paul, Cathedral iconographer Joan Brand-Landkamer
has created this beautiful new icon of SS Peter and Paul for St. James
Cathedral. The central medallion of the two saints is inspired by the
Ethiopian tradition. Stories from the life of St. Peter appear on the left
(from top to bottom, the call of Peter; Peter's testimony to Jesus, the Christ;
Peter's denial of Jesus; the traditional story of Peter meeting Jesus on the
road from Rome). On the right are stories from the life of St. Paul:
Paul's witnessing the martyrdom of St Stephen, his conversion on the road to
Damascus, preaching at the Areopagus, and his imprisonment in Rome. |
