The Cathedral decorated for Pentecost.


At the beginning of the 10 o'clock Mass, the choir sings an introit created for
this occasion by chorister and noted Northwest composer Stephen Cavit.

Candles encircle the altar during the great Pentecost Sequence,
Veni Sancte Spiritus.

"The Spirit unleashed on the infant Church at Pentecost still works wonders,
still lights fires, still shakes the foundations. And all this happens regularly
right here at St. James, as you know -- not just on Pentecost."

After Solemn Vespers of Pentecost, the neophytes take off the white robes they
received at their baptism at the Easter Vigil. "Ordinary Time" has begun!
