Madre de las Americas

4 Dec. 2005

On Saturday, December 3, the Cathedral hosted the annual Archdiocesan celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Americas.  The procession from Seattle University's Ignatius Chapel included a float with a living tableau of the apparition of Our Lady to native peasant Juan Diego.

An apparition!  Juan Diego in front of the new Pastoral Care Center.

The Mass is preceded by a variety of festive dances.

Young people enter whole-heartedly into the traditions which over the centuries have grown up around the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The image of the Virgin is surrounded by roses and music.

Young flower bearers wait their turn to join in the celebration.
