the Pastoral Care Center |

![]() On November 12, 1905, the day of the laying of the Cathedral's cornerstone, skies were blue and the sun was shining. One hundred years later, it was a much more typical Seattle day. ![]() Accompanied by Cathedral piper Tyrone Heade, the ministers lead the procession to the new courtyard at the Pastoral Care Center. ![]() Archbishop Brunett arrives for the blessing, accompanied by Larry Brouse, Pastoral Assistant for Administration at the Cathedral. Larry serves as the owner's representative for the construction. ![]() Architect Stephen Lee presents the plans for the building to Archbishop Brunett. Father William Gallagher (far right), pastor of the Cathedral from 1973 to 1988, concelebrated the Mass on this historic day. ![]() Project Manager Craig Schuck of Ferguson Construction presents the keys to the new building to Father Ryan. ![]() Archbishop Brunett generously sprinkles the building and the people with holy water. "Let us pray that God will make this place a house of blessing and a center of love." ![]() "Archbishop, we ask God's blessing on this room dedicated to hospitality." Jeff Meder, chair of the Centennial Campaign committee, greets the Archbishop on the 2nd floor of the new facility. On the first floor, Pastoral Associate Patty Bowman welcomed the Archbishop; on the third floor, he was greeted by Sister Anne Herkenrath and many of those whose offices will be housed in the new Pastoral Care Center. The ceremony concluded with
a blessing of the people. "God, the comforter of the afflicted and
the strength of the weak, has brought you together for the dedication of
this Pastoral Care Center, established to serve those in need. May
God strengthen you by his grace so that, in serving others with tender
charity, you may serve Christ himself." |
