Wow, what a great second day of Choir Camp!  Your musicianship was very impressive.  I'm amazed at how much we've already accomplished, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.  You are awesome!

Pictures of the day
These pictures may take a few moments to download, so be PATIENT!

We began our day with a surprise visit from Bill McJohn, a cathedral parishioner and an expert on early music.  He showed us harps like those that were played in the 13th century.  They were based on a diatonic scale (no sharps or flats).  In the 17th century, larger harps were made with sharps and flats (the chromatic scale).

At Morning Praise we place our lit candles before the image of St. Cecilia, patron of all musicians and our patron.

Father Brant presided at Morning Praise today.  He told us about three great patrons of musicians:  Saint Cecilia, King David, and Saint Gregory.  Do you remember why these three became the patrons of music?

Our adventure for the afternoon was to climb into the attic, high above the ceiling of the Cathedral.  There we could see some of the original ceiling, from Bishop O'Dea's time, before the dome collapsed.  Almost the whole ceiling of the cathedral is held up by thousands of thin but very strong wires.

Doing what we do best--singing!  It's important not just to sing beautifully, but to express the meaning behind the words and to watch Ms. Sunde!
