Sacrificial Giving

Sacrificial Giving

On December 22, 1907, Bishop Edward John O’Dea blessed and dedicated this great Cathedral. At that time, St. James Cathedral was Seattle’s skyline. Sailors coming into port in Puget Sound saw the illuminated cross high atop the Cathedral’s dome and knew they were home.

The city’s skyline has changed since then. St. James Cathedral has changed, too! But its mission remains the same. For one hundred years now, we have prayed together on this hill. For one hundred years, people have reached out from St. James Cathedral in the name of Christ to the poor, the elderly, and the immigrant. For one hundred years the Cathedral has provided a place for the city to gather in times of great sorrow and great rejoicing.

As we celebrate the centennial of our Cathedral, let us commit ourselves to be good stewards of the gifts God has given us: by participating regularly and actively in the Sunday Eucharist; by sharing our time and talent with our parish community; and by making a prayerful commitment to support St. James Cathedral parish financially, to the extent we are able, in the coming year.

Together we can continue to build up this great Cathedral and leave a legacy for the generations that will come after us.

Your generous and regular sacrificial giving makes it possible for us

  • To celebrate the Church’s liturgy with beauty and dignity;
  • To reach out with love to the poor, the needy, and the elderly;
  • To offer faith formation programs to children and adults;
  • To pay our staff a just and living wage;
  • To sustain our highly acclaimed musical and cultural programs;
  • To maintain our magnificent Cathedral and other parish buildings.
