In these trying economic times the Archdiocese needs your support now more than ever because

• there are more and more poor and low income people who need housing and basic services;
• there are children who need tuition assistance so they can stay in Catholic schools;
• there are seminarians to be trained and educated for our parishes;
• there are hundreds of retired priests and women religious whose modest monthly pensions
  are threatened because of meager returns on pension plan investments.

In other words, the Church is experiencing the same economic hardships and challenges that so many of us are!
 
So, we must go ahead with the Annual Catholic Appeal and, with God’s help, we need to raise even more than we have in past years.  The Archbishop’s goal for this year’s Appeal is $10 million and, of this amount, our own parish of St. James Cathedral is being asked to contribute $346,676.  Our parish has responded magnificently to the Appeal in past years and I know you well enough to believe that you will do the same this year.

An important P.S.!  As in years past, everything given over and above the $346,676 goal given us by the Archdiocese will come back to us for our own parish needs.  This year we have greater need than ever of this rebate.  We need it to meet the considerable expenses that are involved in our many outreach ministries, including the Cathedral Kitchen and the Solanus Casey Center.
