WELCOME! St. James Cathedral is proud to welcome visitors from near and far throughout the summer months. Each week a drawing for a special Cathedral gift will be made from among all the visitor envelopes used. Please write your address on the visitor envelope provided in the pew and drop it with your offering into the collection basket. Thank you for adding to the power of our prayer by your presence in our midst today. Last week, we had visitors from Elkhorn, NE; Baraboo, WI; Jacksonville, FL; Ketchikan, AK; and many other places. CATHEDRAL BOOKSTORE Visitors, stop by for a CD, mug, postcard, or other souvenir of your visit to St. James Cathedral! SUMMER PILGRIMAGE OF FAITH On Saturday August 9, from 1:00-3:00pm, you are invited to join in a walking tour of historic churches on First Hill. We will gather in the Archbishop Murphy Courtyard at the Cathedral at 1:00 and walk to St. Ignatius Chapel and Immaculate Conception Church. At each stop, there will be a short tour of the space and time for exploration and quiet reflection. The pilgrimage will begin and end at the Cathedral and the total distance will be about 3 miles. This is a great opportunity for a lovely summer walk and a peek inside some of our city’s most beautiful Catholic churches – including our own! Information, Corinna Laughlin, claughlin@stjames-cathedral.org, 206-622- 3559. FAITH FORMATION FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS We are delighted to launch a new ministry for children with special needs in the fall. Children will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a teen faith mentor from our Youth Ministry every Sunday morning during the faith formation hour. This allows for individualized faith instruction and ensures full inclusion in our parish community. This model was developed by Deacon Larry Sutton, a psychologist who specializes in autism who will provide training for our youth and families. To register your child, please contact Theresa Van de Ven at tvandeven@stjames-cathedral.org. To volunteer as a teen faith mentor, please contact Joe Cotton at jcotton@stjames-cathedral.org. YOUTH MUSIC CHOIR CAMP August 11-15 and Sunday August 17. There are still openings in our annual Schola Cantorum Choir Camp for children ages 8-13. This year we are also having a “mini-camp” August 15 and 17 for first and second graders. Information, Stacey Sunde, musicoffice@stjames-cathedral.org. THE NEXT SENIOR TRIP will be Wednesday, August 13. Enjoy the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island, the Naval Undersea Museum, as well as the company of God’s people! We’ll stop for lunch in old Poulsbo too. Space is limited and priority will be given to registered parishioners! Wholly Family features original artworks by local artists. Each work is accompanied by a Scripture passage and a poem to invite reflection on our own family relationships and the larger meaning of family. You’re invited to visit the Chapel and explore the show, and also to pick up a prayer card featuring Pope Francis’ prayer for families in preparation for the Synod on the Family this fall. USHERING AT ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL We are in need of more ushers to welcome visitors and parishioners to the Cathedral before Mass and assist with the offertory procession. If you are interested in this important ministry of hospitality, please contact Corinna Laughlin at 206-622-3559 or claughlin@stjames-cathedral.org.
PARISH REMEMBRANCE: Throughout the year, because we are the Cathedral Church, we remember in prayer at Mass and Vespers each of the parishes and missions of the Archdiocese of Seattle on a Sunday near their feast day. This week we remember in prayer the communities of St. Alphonsus in Seattle, St. John Vianney in Kirkland, Vashon, and Darrington, and St. Mary of the Valley in Monroe..
