WELCOME! If you are a visitor to the Cathedral, we want you to know how welcome you are — whether you have come from another part of the country, from across the world, or simply from another parish here in the Archdiocese. Thanks, in part, to the generosity of visitors like you, we are able to celebrate the Church’s liturgy here in a fitting and beautiful way. We are also able to offer a wide range of services to needy people living in the central district of our city.

CATHEDRAL ESPRESSO. Please come by after the 10:00 and Noon Masses. All proceeds for the month of January benefit St. James Immigrant Assistance.

IMMIGRATION FORUM. Join us today from 11:15 – 11:45 am in the Pastoral Outreach Center for an informal conversation about immigration issues. Learn about what’s happening and what you can do to make a difference. Or visit the Immigrant Assistance website to learn more. Information, Christopher Koehler, Immigrant Assistance, 206-382-4511.

CATHOLIC ADVOCACY 2014. Members of our Respect Life Committee will be present at coffee hours on January 12 and 19 to discuss current life issues in the Washington State Legislature and to register parishioners who would like a ride to Olympia on Tuesday, January 21 for the Mass and March for Life. Information, Suzanne Lee, 206-654-4640.

THE ST. JAMES KNITTERS GROUP is back from holidays. Our next meeting is Monday, January 13 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Fireside Room, Pastoral Outreach Center. Anyone and everyone is welcome, so please join us. We’ve been making hats and scarfs for the homeless, and baby hats we donate to St. Joseph Baby Corner. Want to join the fun? Any level of participation is welcome, from coming to meetings or knitting (and crocheting) on your own and donating the results. Yarn, knitting needles, and other supplies can be donated; we promise to put them to good use. Never knitted before? We’ve taught other beginners to knit, and will help you, too. Information, Connie Carlson, 206-518-1623.

MASS IN THANKSGIVING FOR THE LIFE OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. You are invited to participate in a special Mass in thanksgiving for the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and in celebration of the presence of African American Catholics in the Archdiocese of Seattle. The Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Sartain on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00am. All are welcome!

SANTO NIÑO – HOLY CHILD. On Sunday, January 19, at the Noon Mass, we will have our annual celebration of the Santo Niño, the Holy Child Jesus. The image of Jesus as vulnerable child and mighty King is beloved throughout the world, and in a special way in the Philippines. All are invited to bring their own images of the Child Jesus from home for the blessing. The annual celebration will be followed by a fiesta in Cathedral Place Hall, with dancing, a raffle, and, of course, a marvelous feast of Filipino food prepared by a group of our own parishioners. All are welcome.

BECOMING CATHOLIC. Do you know someone who is interested in finding out more about becoming Catholic? A new inquiry session, with no strings attached, begins on Wednesday, January 22 at 7:00pm in Cathedral Place, Room 1. This is an opportunity to ask questions and learn the basics of the Catholic faith, the first step towards baptism or reception into full communion with the Church. Information, Kathleen McCabe, Director of Faith Formation, 206-382-2018.

FREE CREATIVE ARTS WORKSHOP. Gallagher Center, every other Saturday, beginning January 25, from 10am –12 Noon. Gilda will guide you in creating artwork and crafts including water colors, pencil drawing, collage, beading, sculpting, seasonal decorations and more! Information, Nancy Granger, 206-382-4269.

CELEBRATING OUR CATHOLIC “RAINBOW” SCHOOLS. On Sunday, February 2, we will celebrate Catholic Schools, and in a particular way the Cathedral kids who attend one of the five Rainbow Schools. Our parish is a contributing member of the Rainbow Schools Coalition whereby children from our parish can attend at “parishioner” tuition rates. Approximately 50 cathedral children are enrolled in one of these terrific schools. On February 2, representatives of St. Edward, St. George, St. Paul, St. Joseph and St. Therese Catholics Schools will be available following the 10:00am and Noon Masses during hospitality. Please note: Children attending any Catholic school are encouraged to come to Mass in their uniforms! Information, Theresa Van de Ven, 206-219-5822.

This week we remember in prayer the parishes of St. Mary in Castle Rock and Centralia, and St. Mary Mission in Coupeville.
